The researchers studied how a fungus called Irpex lacteus breaks down different types of wheat straw to make it easier for animals to digest. They found that after 56 days, the fungus degraded a lot of the tough lignin in the straw and made it more nutritious. This improved the digestibility of the straw by 21% and increased gas production by 32%. Overall, using Irpex lacteus on wheat straw can make it a better food source for animals.
