Oil palm plantations boost soil quality, revolutionizing farming practices in Nigeria.
The study looked at how different types of land use affect soil quality in a community in Nigeria. They collected soil samples from cassava fields, oil palm plantations, and banana plantations, and analyzed them for physical, chemical, and biological properties. The results showed that oil palm plantations had the highest soil quality compared to banana and cassava fields. This was because of the natural properties of the soil and the need for practices that increase organic matter to improve soil productivity. It is suggested that managing soil fertility should be tailored to specific sites to improve crop yield and productivity.
