Soil erosion in Pakistan's Chitral district reaches alarming levels.
Land degradation from soil erosion is a big problem in Chitral, Pakistan. Using a model called RUSLE with Remote Sensing and GIS, researchers found that the area has high soil loss and sediment yield. The study shows that the Chitral district has the highest average annual soil loss of 78 tons per hectare per year. The maps created in the study reveal that the area has a high sediment yield of 258 tons per hectare per year and an average annual soil loss of 450 tons per hectare per year. The study suggests planting trees and building structures like check dams to control soil erosion in the high severity zones.
