New treatments show promise in reducing lung damage from severe infections
In this study, researchers wanted to compare the effects of low-dose hydrocortisone and Xuebijing injection on lung injury caused by E. coli in rats. They created a lung injury model in rats by giving them E. coli, then treated them with either low-dose hydrocortisone, Xuebijing injection, or normal saline. The results showed that both low-dose hydrocortisone and Xuebijing injection helped reduce inflammation and lung swelling in the rats compared to the control group that received normal saline. The levels of inflammatory markers in the blood were lower in the groups treated with hydrocortisone and Xuebijing, and the lung swelling was also reduced. This suggests that both treatments have similar effects in reducing lung injury caused by E. coli in rats.
