New Treatment Offers Hope for Infants with Debilitating Seizures
The study compared the effectiveness of two treatments, ACTH and methylprednisolone, on infantile spasms in rat models. Rats were induced with seizures and then treated with either ACTH, methylprednisolone, or saline. The results showed that ACTH and methylprednisolone reduced seizure severity and increased latency period compared to saline. Both treatments also decreased the expression of a hormone related to seizures in the brain. Overall, ACTH and methylprednisolone were found to be more effective in reducing seizures in the rat models compared to saline.
