Glucocorticoid Therapy Risks Bone Loss, Vitamin D Deficiency in Adrenal Patients
The study looked at how glucocorticoid affects vitamin D metabolism in rats with partial removal of their adrenal glands. Rats were divided into different groups and given different doses of prednisone. The results showed that low doses of prednisone increased active vitamin D levels, while medium and high doses decreased them. This suggests that glucocorticoids can either stimulate or inhibit the production of active vitamin D, which can impact bone health.
