New Treatment Offers Hope for Chronic Reflux Sufferers, Reducing Inflammation and Tissue Damage.
In a rat study about acid reflux in the esophagus, a substance called PDTC was tested. The goal was to see if PDTC can protect the esophagus from damage caused by acid. The researchers made rats have acid reflux and then treated some with PDTC. They found that PDTC reduced esophageal damage and lowered levels of harmful proteins. Specifically, PDTC decreased the severity of esophageal injuries and decreased the levels of NF-κB p65 and IL-6 proteins in the rats' blood. This suggests that PDTC might be helpful in protecting the esophagus from acid-related damage.
