Low awareness leads to low willingness to pay for improved sanitation.
The study looked at how much people in Metro Manila are willing to pay for better sewerage and sanitation services to reduce waterborne diseases and pollution in waterways. The average amount people are willing to pay is around 0.29 per cubic meter of water used, which is lower than the actual water price. This could be because many households don't fully understand how their wastewater affects water pollution and the need for proper treatment. To increase support for wastewater treatment programs, more information campaigns are needed to raise awareness among residents.
