China must reduce chemical fertilizer use by 21.80 million tons to save agriculture.
In China, the efficiency of chemical fertilizers in agriculture is low, leading to pollution and quality issues. By analyzing fertilizer use trends, it was found that excessive fertilizer input is a major problem. The total amount of chemical fertilizers used has been increasing, mainly due to higher application intensity. However, efforts to reduce application intensity have been effective in decreasing overall fertilizer use. To achieve sustainable agricultural development, China needs to reduce its chemical fertilizer usage by at least 21.80 million tons. Measures like improving fertilizer utilization and implementing fallow rotation systems are being taken to address this issue.
