Family Medicine Clinics in Taiwan Struggle with Professional Identity Crisis
Family medicine clinics in Taiwan often do not include "family medicine" in their names, unlike other medical specialties like ophthalmology or dermatology. This suggests that family physicians may not see themselves as equal to other specialists. The study looked at clinic names and found that only 13.3% of family medicine clinics had names indicating their specialty, compared to over 90% for other specialties. Urban family medicine clinics were more likely to have specialty names than suburban or rural clinics. This shows a need for further investigation into how family physicians view their professional identity.
