The article compares different methods for measuring the size and shape of sand particles. By using dynamic image analysis (DIA) along with traditional methods like sieving and laser diffraction, researchers studied 372 sand samples from various regions. They found that DIA can accurately measure particle shape and size, especially for fine particles. The study showed that DIA and sieving give similar results for fines content, with DIA being more accurate for irregularly shaped particles. Laser diffraction tends to overestimate fines and underestimate sand content. Overall, the new DIA method provides more precise measurements of sand particles compared to traditional techniques.
