New wheat genotypes show promise in combating drought stress impact.
Drought stress affects wheat production, leading to significant losses during grain filling. A study examined 72 wheat genotypes under irrigated and drought conditions, focusing on four genotypes with different drought tolerance levels. Drought-tolerant genotypes showed higher levels of antioxidants, phenolics, and proline. Specific transcription factors were identified as potential targets for developing drought-resistant wheat varieties. Genotypes IC128335 and IC36761A are promising candidates for breeding new drought-tolerant wheat varieties.
