Natural wetlands disappearing in Shandong Peninsula due to human activities.
The study looked at how wetlands in eastern Shandong Peninsula changed from 1990 to 2018 using satellite images and GIS analysis. They found that natural wetlands decreased while artificial wetlands increased, with 37.46% of natural wetlands converted. The shape of wetland landscapes became simpler and more diverse, with less fragmentation. Population, socio-economic factors, and climate change were the main reasons for these changes.
