New rice hybrids promise higher yields and better harvests for farmers.
Researchers studied how different rice plants combine to produce better yields. They crossed 40 hybrids with 2 female lines and 20 male lines to see which combinations worked best. They found that some crosses produced significantly higher yields and other desirable traits like early flowering and dwarf stature. The best combinations were IR 688897A X Sarjoo 52, IR 58025 A X 21-2-5-B-1-1, IR 58025 A X Narendra Usar 3, and IR 58025 A X IR 71829-3R-73-1-2-B. These hybrids showed positive effects on grain yield, making them promising for rice production.
