New Study Reveals Rainfall Intensity Key Factor in Soil Erosion
Rainfall parameters like intensity and kinetic energy affect how soil erosion happens when rain hits the ground. Scientists studied splash erosion in Central Europe using natural rainfall. They found that splash erosion is related to the amount of rain energy and intensity. Using average rainfall intensity or dividing kinetic energy by rainfall duration gives better predictions of splash erosion than just looking at total energy. The modified Morgan splash cup is a good tool for measuring soil erosion.
