Intercropping Maize and Rice Boosts Yields, Reduces Weeding for Smallholder Farmers
The study looked at how different spacing of maize plants and weed control methods affected the growth and yield of maize and rice grown together in Ghana. They found that weeding at 3 & 6 weeks after planting was best for controlling weeds and improving rice growth. Maize spacing of 80 x 40 cm was also good for both crops. Farmers are advised to use these methods to get better yields without reducing plant densities.
