Toxic Pollution Threatens Survival of Chamo Lake's Aquatic Life
The water quality of Kulfo river stream and Chamo Lake in Arba Minch, Ethiopia is being negatively impacted by pollution from sewage, waste, and untreated wastewater. High levels of turbidity, TDS, phosphate, iron, coliform bacteria, ammonia, pH, and electrical conductivity were found in the river stream entering the lake, along with low levels of dissolved oxygen. These conditions are harmful to aquatic life, especially fish in the lake.
