Wheat Farmers Boost Yields and Water Efficiency with Optimized Irrigation and Fertilization
Wheat productivity was studied in Egypt using different irrigation and nitrogen levels. The researchers tested three water regimes and nitrogen fertilization on two wheat varieties. They found that the best grain yield and water use efficiency were achieved with 60% soil moisture depletion and full nitrogen fertilization. Giza 168 variety had a yield of 2.78 tons per feddan and a water use efficiency of 1.02 kg per cubic meter under these conditions.
