Fog-proof LiDAR breakthrough paves the way for all-weather autonomous driving!
LiDAR technology helps autonomous cars "see" by measuring distances with lasers. However, fog can make it hard for LiDAR to work well. Scientists studied how fog affects a type of LiDAR called ToF LiDAR. They tested different fog levels in a lab and found out how much fog makes the LiDAR stop working. They used this data to teach a computer program to predict when the LiDAR won't work in fog. This helps car companies know how well their LiDAR will work in different weather conditions.
