Continuous drought drastically reduces winter wheat yield and water use efficiency.
The study looked at how drought affects winter wheat growth. They tested different levels of drought on wheat plants at different stages of growth. They found that severe drought reduces photosynthesis and yield. Moderate drought also decreases yield, mainly at the jointing and heading stages. Water use efficiency is lower under continuous drought, especially with moderate and severe drought. To save water and get high yields, it's best to apply some water stress during critical growth periods.
