Inadequate Community Involvement Leads to Forest Degradation in Kenya.
The study looked at how to improve forest management in Mt. Elgon Forest Reserve, Kenya. They found that local communities near the forest are aware of conservation but lack technical skills. Forest staff are trained but lack funds for sustainable strategies. People rely on the forest for income, leading to overuse. Cultural practices like grazing and living in the forest harm sustainability. Better involvement of local communities is needed for successful forest management.
