Adaptive building envelopes could slash energy use and keep people cool amid climate change
Climate change can make buildings too hot or too cold. This study looked at ways to make non-residential buildings in Germany use less energy for heating in winter and cooling in summer. They tested different shading options and building materials using a computer simulation. The results showed that using a special type of building material can reduce energy use by 7% to 15% compared to just adding more insulation.
