New lime application method boosts soil health in hill country pastures!
The researchers compared the effects of different types and amounts of lime on soil pH in Marlborough hill country pasture. They found that all lime treatments raised soil pH in the top 25 mm for 355 days after application. Fine lime did not affect pH in the 25-75 mm zone until day 355. The high rate of agricultural lime had the greatest impact on pH in both zones. Rainfall and lime particle size influenced the speed of pH change. Aerially applying 400 kg/ha of agricultural lime was cheaper and had a longer-lasting effect compared to 200 kg/ha of fine lime.
