Plant roots, like those of willow and wingnut trees, make slopes more stable by strengthening the soil. The type and depth of roots affect how well they reinforce the slope. Roots work best near the surface, not too deep. This study helps understand how vegetation can prevent landslides in hilly areas near the Yangtze River.
