Weed control breakthrough boosts rice yield by up to 100%
Direct seeding of rice saves labor and costs compared to transplanting, but weeds can severely reduce yields. Weeds can decrease dry direct seeded rice yields by 96% and wet direct seeded rice yields by 61%. Delaying weeding can lead to even higher weed biomass and further yield losses. While manual weeding is effective, it can be unreliable and costly. Using a combination of chemical, manual, and mechanical weed control methods is the best approach for managing weeds in direct seeded rice fields. Chemical weed control, when applied correctly, can be both cost-effective and efficient in controlling weeds.
