Fuel-cell electric trucks could slash emissions and costs for long-haul transport
Drop-and-pull transportation can save money and reduce emissions by using different trailers with the same tractor. A new fuel-cell electric vehicle with three power sources was designed for this purpose. By adding an ultracapacitor to the fuel cell and battery, the vehicle's energy system lasts longer and is more efficient. The three-energy-source vehicle has a 64% lower ampere-hour throughput compared to the two-energy-source vehicle, showing that the ultracapacitor protects the power battery and extends the vehicle's service life.
