Boosting wastewater treatment efficiency with longer retention times in activated sludge
The study looked at how changing the time wastewater stays in a treatment plant affects its performance. By using a small-scale plant, they found that longer times led to better removal of pollutants like COD and TKN. For example, with a longer time in the plant, COD removal increased from 12.9% to 88.4%, and TKN removal increased from 10.8% to 72.1%. This shows that increasing the time wastewater spends in the treatment plant improves its cleaning efficiency.
