Leguminous green manure crops help organic farms by adding nitrogen to the soil and reducing weed growth. A study in Denmark found that a two-year green manure crop followed by annual cash crops led to a 54% lower weed seed bank compared to fields with only cash crops. The weed seed numbers decreased over time after the green manure crop was removed. This shows that using leguminous green manure crops can help control weeds in organic farming.
