Private Sector Sanitation Outperforms Government Standard in Nairobi Schools.
Achieving clean and safe sanitation in schools is a big challenge. A study in Nairobi, Kenya, found that private sector sanitation delivery (PSSD) was more sustainable and cost-effective than government standard delivery (GSD). PSSD provided better facilities and maintenance for schools in informal settlements. However, financial barriers hindered the scalability of PSSD, especially in public schools. Engaging the private sector can improve affordable and safe sanitation for students, but more guidance is needed to make these partnerships successful in the long term.
