Soil texture affects how soil behaves when measuring moisture levels. Different models used to estimate soil moisture take this into account in different ways. A new model called SSMDM also considers soil texture. The study looked at how soil texture impacts the accuracy of these models across different soil types and frequencies. The results show that in some cases, the models give accurate moisture estimates within a 4% range. But in other cases, the estimates can be off by more than 0.22 m3/m3, which is a significant difference.
