New model accurately predicts phosphorus loss in agricultural watersheds.
The WEPP model was tested to predict phosphorus loss in an agricultural watershed. Two methods were used to estimate phosphorus loss with sediment, and both accurately simulated the measured results. The method using WEPP-calculated enrichment ratio is recommended as it does not require empirical parameters. Sediment plays a crucial role in phosphorus loss, and the model's ability to represent sediment yield events is key to accurately predicting phosphorus transport in watersheds.
