New salt-tolerant rice cultivars thrive in high salinity soils in Vietnam.
The study looked at how different levels of salt in the soil affect the growth and yield of four types of rice plants in Central Vietnam. They found that some rice varieties produced more rice than others, even in salty soil. As the soil got saltier, the amount of rice produced by the plants decreased. This means that certain types of rice can grow well in salty soil, but too much salt can still hurt their growth.
