Flood risk underestimated in remote Indigenous communities of Kimberley region
The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation studied flood risk in remote Indigenous communities in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. They used RORB models to analyze streamflow data and develop parameters for predicting floods in ungauged areas. The recommended Continuing Loss value for the region was found to be too high. By comparing model parameters, they created a set for predicting floods in three ungauged Indigenous community catchments. The study focused on flood risk in the Ngallagunda community near the Gibb River Road.
