Courtyards can help cool down buildings in hot climates. This study looked at how people feel in a courtyard in a tropical area during very hot and cold weather. They found that the courtyard can make people feel cooler by up to 6.4 degrees on cold days and 5.0 degrees on hot days. This cooling effect is due to the courtyard's shape and design. Overall, courtyards can be a good way to make buildings more comfortable in tropical areas, even as the climate changes.
