Calibrated thermal comfort scales improve outdoor comfort in severe cold areas.
This study looked at how people feel comfortable in cold outdoor areas. Researchers used data from a year-long survey in Harbin, China. They used different methods to predict how people feel in the cold, like Standard Effective Temperature and Physiologically Equivalent Temperature. They found that the original scales were not very accurate, but they made new scales that were better. People in cold areas feel comfortable when it's slightly cool to hot outside. The study also showed that how long people have been in the cold and how used to it they are affect how they feel. This information can help make outdoor spaces more comfortable for people in cold areas.
