Shallow buried coal seams in China can cause damage to the overlying layers, leading to water loss and surface issues. A study at Wulanmulun coal mine analyzed the movement of overlying layers after mining, finding that different zones show different subsidence patterns. Cracks in the bedrock can extend through the entire layer, affecting water flow. The height of water flowing fracture zones was accurately predicted, aiding in understanding overburden movement in mining operations.
