Reservoir landslides at risk of accelerated deformation due to water level changes.
Reservoir water level changes can make landslides move and change shape. Scientists studied a big landslide in the Three Gorges Reservoir area. They used computer models to see how the water level affects the soil. They found that the landslide is slowly getting worse because of the water level going up and down. The soil in the landslide area is moving slowly, then faster, and then really fast. This shows that the water level is making the landslide move more. The scientists looked at the landslide in person, used machines to watch it, and used computers to make sure their findings were correct.
