Multilayer drainage was studied for coalbed methane production in Southern Qinshui basin. Increasing drainage rate improved gas production in No.15 coal seam significantly, but not in No.3 coal seam. No.15 coal seam has greater production potential due to larger residual CBM content. Increasing drainage rate can enhance CBM recovery in No.15 coal seam. Effective stress has weak influence on coal seam permeability. Increasing drainage rate can boost gas production from CBM wells.
