Climate change dominates runoff in agricultural watershed, impacting water resources.
The study looked at how land use and climate change affect water flow in a river basin in Southern China. Using a computer model called SWAT, researchers found that climate change had a bigger impact on water flow than changes in land use. In fact, climate change caused a significant decrease in water flow over time. The decrease in forested areas and increase in developed and cultivated lands also contributed to a slight increase in water flow. Overall, the study suggests that climate change is the main factor influencing water flow in this area, and the findings can help guide decisions on managing water resources in similar regions.
