Soybean Lecithin Preserves Black Bengal Buck Semen, Boosts Goat Breeding
In this experiment, scientists wanted to make a special liquid to store black Bengal buck sperm for a long time. They tried using soybean lecithin to make the liquid instead of egg yolk. They collected sperm from five bucks and froze it using different amounts of soybean lecithin. They found that the liquid with 1% soybean lecithin was as good as the one with egg yolk for keeping the sperm healthy. But using more soybean lecithin made the sperm less active. When they used the liquid with 1% soybean lecithin to inseminate goats, they had baby goats born 51.95% of the time. So, the researchers think a liquid with 1% soybean lecithin can be used to freeze black Bengal buck sperm well.
