New study finds key to boosting biodiesel production from microalgae!
The researchers studied how different factors like saltiness, sugar type, and light duration affect the growth of a type of microalgae called Phaeodactylum tricornutum. They wanted to see how to make the microalgae produce more lipids, which can be used to make biodiesel. They found that using glycerol as a carbon source, keeping the saltiness at 15 parts per thousand, and giving the microalgae light all day led to the highest lipid production. This method produced 80% more lipids compared to just using light for growth. So, using glycerol, lower saltiness, and constant light can help make more lipids from microalgae for biodiesel.
