Irrigation Woes Threaten Food Security and Ecosystems in Developing Nations
This study focused on understanding and solving problems in managing water for farming in Sri Lanka to balance farming needs and protecting nature. The researchers talked to experts and identified issues like the inefficiency of water systems, unfair water sharing, harm to the environment, and financial problems. They found that issues with water systems were the main cause of these problems. Water users fighting and using up groundwater worsened the situation, and some parts of the water systems were not working well, leading to losses. To make water use in farming sustainable, it's crucial to address these challenges, especially in countries like Sri Lanka, for better farming decisions.
