Green manure-SRI boosts rice yield by 17% and saves 29% water.
Farmers in Tamil Nadu tested a new way of growing rice called Green manure-System of Rice Intensification (GM-SRI) to increase their income. They compared this method to the traditional way of growing rice. The GM-SRI method resulted in higher rice yields, saved more water, and had better water use efficiency. This method also led to higher profits for the farmers compared to the traditional method. Overall, using GM-SRI increased rice yield by 17%, saved 29% of water, and resulted in a net profit increase of Rs. 53643 per hectare.
