Satellite Data Reveals Drought Risk Zones in Pakistan, Urgent Action Needed
Drought is a slow and harmful natural event that affects the economy, agriculture, and environment. In Pakistan's Khushab region, researchers used satellite images and GIS tools to study drought risk. They analyzed data from 2003, 2009, and 2015 to identify areas prone to drought. By calculating vegetation and rainfall indices, they created maps showing different levels of drought severity. The study found that about 30% of the area faces moderate drought, while 28% faces slight drought, and 41% faces no drought. The southern part of Khushab is more affected by drought than the northern part. This information can help in preparing management plans to deal with drought risks.
