L-carnitine Boosts Sperm Health, Offering Hope for Infertile Men
The study looked at sperm from rats with varicocele (a condition causing infertility) and tested the effects of L-carnitine on sperm health. They divided the rats into different groups and gave them L-carnitine for several weeks while comparing their sperm to control groups. Rats with varicocele had lower-quality sperm and less of a specific sperm protein, CatSper1. However, rats treated with L-carnitine had better sperm quality and more CatSper1. Higher doses of L-carnitine seemed to have a bigger effect on improving sperm quality and increasing CatSper1 levels. The researchers found that using L-carnitine could help increase sperm viability and CatSper1 expression, which are important for fertility in rats with varicocele.
