Organic manure boosts rice growth and profits in agroforestry system.
The researchers tested different organic manures to see which one helps rice grow best using the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) method in a citrus-based agroforestry system. They found that SRI led to taller plants, more tillers, larger leaves, and higher dry weight compared to traditional methods. After harvesting, the SRI method resulted in higher gross return, lower cultivation costs, and higher net return. The best results were seen with a mix of 75% recommended dose of nutrients through farmyard manure and 25% through poultry manure. This shows that using organic manure with the SRI method can improve rice growth and economic returns in citrus-based agroforestry systems.
