Biochar boosts maize yield by integrating organic and inorganic phosphorous sources
Maize yield in Pakistan can be improved by using a mix of organic and inorganic phosphorous sources along with biochar. An experiment found that applying 50% of phosphorous from organic sources like farmyard manure, along with 50% from inorganic sources like diammonium phosphate, along with 10 tons of biochar per hectare, led to the best maize yield. This combination resulted in more days to tasseling and silking, taller plants, more grains per ear, higher grain yield, biological yield, and harvest index. In conclusion, this integrated approach can boost maize production.
