New wheat study reveals key factors for boosting grain yield!
Researchers studied selection parameters for grain yield in bread wheat by crossing different genotypes. They found significant differences in 12 characteristics among the genotypes, with high heritability for plant height, days to maturity, and number of spikelets per spike. Genetic advance ranged from 3.30% to 32.90% in grain yield. Phenotypic correlation showed a strong relationship between grain yield and biological yield, spike length, spikelets per spike, and plant height. The study also analyzed direct and indirect effects of different characteristics on grain yield.
