New rice hybrids show significant increase in grain yield and quality.
Researchers studied hybrid rice plants to see if they could produce higher yields than their parents. They crossed seven high-yielding lines with three superior testers to create 21 hybrids. They found that most hybrids showed significant increases in grain yield and other important traits. Nine hybrids had better yields than the standard parent, and six outperformed the better parent. The increase in grain yield ranged from -38.71% to 32.96%. Four hybrids, including MTU 1010 x IR 50 and ADT 39 x TRY 2, had the highest yields and were identified as the best hybrids for maximizing hybrid vigor. Many of the hybrids that had higher grain yields also showed improvements in other traits.
