New wheat traits discovered for higher yield and quality in crops
A study on spring wheat looked at 19 different parent plants and their offspring to see how they varied in traits like yield and quality. They found that there were significant differences between the plants for all traits. The genetic variability was higher than the environmental variability for all traits, meaning the traits were mostly determined by genetics rather than the environment. Traits like grain yield, biological yield, and ash content showed high heritability and genetic advance, suggesting they could be good indicators for selecting plants for improvement.
